7 die in brewery: Workers die while cleaning brewery tank in Mexico City

Mexico City authorities say that seven workers died while cleaning a tank at a Grupo Modelo brewery in Mexico City. The incident happened early on the morning of Sunday, April 7, 2013, per the Associated Press.

A spokeswoman for prosecutors of the city said that the accident occurred rather early on Sunday morning, and investigators are looking into how the workers died. It is believed they may have died from inhaling toxic fumes, but that isn't yet confirmed.

The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because she is not authorized at this time to speak on an ongoing case.

Francisco Lopez Bravo, the building manager, told the local media that the workers were trapped inside of the cistern while doing some maintenance work. This accident caused "7 die in brewery" to begin trending worldwide.

Lopez Bravo went on to say that there are no other risks for workers at the brewery that it continued to operate as normal on Sunday.

Since June, Anheuser-Busch inBev has been trying to take over the half of Grupo Modelo that is already doesn't own. That part makes Corona and other beers popular around the world.
