In the early morning at 20:53:10.70 UTC on Jun 23, 2014, A powerful magnitude 7.9 earthquake struck off the coast of Alaska at Little Sitkin Island, alerting officials to issue a tsunami warning for Alaska's coastal regions. The warning was later downgraded to an advisory, but 32 more earthquakes in Alaska ensued. The Alaska earthquakes followed a 7.2 earthquake south of Raoul Island at 7.19am in New Zealand.

The Alaska quake was initially reported to be 5km deep, but was revised to 30km. The quake, which shook an area about 15 miles from Little Sitkin Island, was initially deemed a 7.1 on the Richter scale before it was upgraded to an 7.9.

Tsunami waves in Unalaska and Saint Paul, Alaska, were expected to be under a foot tall, the the National Weather Service advisory said. Waves had already reached other locations in Alaska, none higher than a foot.

After the first Alaska Earthquake was issued, there were 32 more issued ranging from a 6.6 Earthquake in Buldir Island, Alaska two 5.9 Earthquakes near Little Sitkin Island and a 6.0 near Little Sitkin Island according to USGS.

Strangely other news sites are only reporting the 7.9 Earthquake and not reporting the 32 other earthquakes around the area which can be viewed at USGS.gov.

The other Earthquakes in Alaska are registered in Atka, Little Sitkin Island, and the Aleutian Islands with more being reported all over the ring of fire. The Pacific ring of fire has been under constant watch lately and with 32 earthquakes around this one, the USGS.gov keeps an updated map of earthquakes.

The Ring of Fire is a 40,000km horseshoe-shaped area of the Pacific Ocean, where a large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.
