TORONTO — Youth Day 2012 will hit Yonge-Dundas Square on Sunday, July 22, from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. This year, “the largest festival of its kind” is expected to attract 30,000 visitors.
Created in 2005, Youth Day Toronto is a free public event that celebrates the positive achievements of young artists through 10 hours of non-stop dance and music performances on two outdoor stages, as well as a Youth Gallery featuring paintings, sculptures, jewelry, drawings, photography and presentations.
This year, Youth Day will include a “Kiddy Corner” entertainment area with inflatable amusements and games, a fashion show, and an artisan and food market on Yonge Street.
Acts interested in performing during Youth Day 2012 are invited to submit their applications for the April-May auditions. Participants must be between 14 and 24 years old. All genres and styles of music and dance and art are welcome. However, music featuring swearing and derogatory language will not be accepted. To apply for the auditions, click here.
In 2011, Youth Day Toronto broke two world records: audience participation to Chubby Checker’s “The Twist” and largest production (107 acts).
