If you want to have a little motorized fun while helping out a good cause, look no further than the 6th-Annual Ruff Ride and PawBash, which will be held in Saturday, August 18, 2012.

This event is a benefit for NAWS, which stands for the Northland Animal Welfare Society. These folks educate people on compassionate animal treatment, and help place abandoned and abused pets in the Northland. Pets can’t talk—who speaks for them? NAWS speaks for them!

This event will be open to all motorcycles and hot rods, and it will be packed with activities from one end to the other. Participants will meet at the NAWS low-cost spay and neuter clinic in Riverside, travel on a 60-mile scenic dice run with various stops along the way, and end up at Wabash Barbecue in Excelsior Springs, where they will experience music, food, and fun.

In the past, this has been primarily a motorcycle ride. But the hot rod element was added for 2012 for a little four-wheeled fun for our four-legged friends. Susan Tallant from Tallant’s Auto Body is helping to spearhead the automotive portion of the run, and she’s excited about the opportunity.

“My goal is to get as many hot rods as possible involved this year,” said Tallant. “There is no reason why we shouldn't have a couple of miles of hot rods added to the group!”

If you would like to take part in this event, register between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at the NAWS Clinic, 3400 NW Vivion Road in Riverside, Mo., 64150. The ride and drive will end between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at Wabash Barbecue and Blues Garden, 646 South Kansas City Ave., Excelsior Springs, Mo., 64024. Blues music provided by the King G Band and Joe Moss will keep the assembled crowd entertained.
