Here is a continuation of my predictions and thoughts on the film nominees for the 69th Golden Globes. And don't forget to watch the awards show on Jan. 15th at 8pm EST on NBC.
Best Animated Feature Film: The Adventures of Tintin, Arthur Christmas, Cars 2, Puss in Boots, Rango
Rango is probably the most liked animated film of the year. No one liked Cars 2, so Pixar’s out. My guess: Rango
Best Foreign Language Film: The Flowers of War (China), In the Land of Blood and Honey (United States), The Kid with a Bike (Belgium), A Separation (Iran), The Skin I Live In (Spain)
A Separation has won many awards and has found itself at the very top of many critics’ list. My guess: A Separation
Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture: Berenice Bejo (The Artist), Jessica Chastain (The Help), Janet McTeer (Albert Nobbs), Octavia Spencer (The Help), Shailene Woodley (The Descendants)
It doesn’t seem that McTeer will have much of a chance in this race even with some acclaim. My guess: Octavia Spencer
Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture: Kenneth Branagh (My Week with Marilyn), Albert Brooks (Drive), Jonah Hill (Moneyball), Viggo Mortensen (A Dangerous Method), Christopher Plummer (Beginners)
I would guess it’s between Albert Brooks and Christopher Plummer, both having won many awards already this year for these roles (if my count is up-to-date, 8 for Brooks, 7 for Plummer). It’s one of the toughest races of the year. My guess: Albert Brooks
Best Director – Motion Picture: Woody Allen (Midnight in Paris), George Clooney (The Ides of March), Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist), Alexander Payne (The Descendants), Martin Scorsese (Hugo)
Allen and Payne have been receiving more attention for their writing than their directing. Clooney has received almost no attention for The Ides of March. Looks to be down to Scorsese and Hazanavicius. My guess: Michel Hazanavicius
Best Screenplay – Motion Picture: Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist), Nat Faxon/Alexander Payne/Jim Rash (The Descendants), George Clooney/Grant Heslov/Beau Willimon (The Ides of March), Woody Allen (Midnight in Paris), Stan Chervin/Aaron Sorkin/Steven Zaillian (Moneyball)
Payne, Allen and Sorkin are arguably three of the most respected writers in Hollywood. My guess: Moneyball
Best Original Score – Motion Picture: Ludovic Bource (The Artist), Abel Korzeniowski (W.E.), Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Howard Shore (Hugo), John Williams (War Horse)
Bource’s score is one of the main characters of The Artist due to its lack of dialogue. My guess: Ludovic Bource
Best Original Song – Motion Picture: “Hello Hello” Gnomeo & Juliet, “The Keeper” Machine Gun Preacher, “Lay Your Head Down” Albert Nobbs, “The Living Proof” The Help, “Masterpiece” W.E.
First, I’d like to complain about no nominations for The Muppets here. Second, three of these films haven’t been very popular, so can their songs be memorable? My guess: “Lay Your Head Down” Albert Nobbs
