64-year-old Daytona woman stops, holds suspect in yard at gunpoint

64-year-old Karen Granville of Daytona Beach, FL, helped police take 22-year-old Roderick Willis after a short chase in what police said was a stolen vehicle.

MyFoxOrlando reported:

Karen Granville said she heard the Sheriff's helicopter and sirens while laying in bed at about three in the morning Tuesday. She said she then heard someone run right by her bedroom window and through her yard.

Granville, 64, said she grabbed her pistol and ran outside, and came face to face with a carjacking suspect. She told deputies she said, "Stop right there [expletive], or you're going to be dead where you stand."
Granville said the suspect begged her not to shoot.

According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, police chased Willis until he ditched the car in Granville's driveway.

Granville, who was awakened by her cat, said she heard a helicopter over her house.

Moments later, the News-Journal reported, she reportedly saw Willis run into her back yard and try to scale her fence. She then grabbed her .38 Special revolver and followed him.

That's when she encountered Willis.

"I was not going to let him go," she said. "I just held my gun in my right hand until the police arrested him."

The News-Journal added:
Willis was charged with fleeing and eluding law enforcement, driving with a suspended license, use of a vehicle to commit a felony, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute. He was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on Tuesday and released after posting $7,500 bail.
According to court records, Willis spent time in jail last year for fleeing officers.
