As the popular saying goes, you learn something new everyday. Well, they're right. Even though I'm about 5 years past the prime age of Tumblr users, I signed up. I'm now close to 50 followers, which isn't bad for someone who has no theme to their blog. While scanning through the variety of posts I realized that I know these people better than some of my best friends. Even though most of the people I follow are a bit younger than me, it's like a long lost kin. For those parents wondering what your kids are doing on the "Timblr" all day long, this article is for you. This is also for Tumblr users to laugh at and share their own thoughts. Let's get started.
1. Teenage lesbians have very strong opinions, and they aren't afraid to share them.
This is one of those things that you would sort of expect to see. Especially since a large number of lesbians are feminists, and everyone has strong opinions while they're a teenager. Those on Tumblr however are not afraid to voice their opinions. Some of the topics in which they argue over, and receive very rude comments on are: Abortion, women's rights, rape, and how media portrays the LGBT public. Now before you go thinking I'm against this, please know I'm not. I think it's great these young women have voices and are strong enough to share their opinions and feelings. I also have many friends who are LGBT and it makes no difference to me what sexuality you were born with. For those who aren't on Tumblr yet, never pick a fight with a teenage lesbian on Tumblr. You will probably lose and end up feeling ashamed. Needless to say, they're some bad ass bitches.
2. You can post porn without any consequences
I've noticed many blogs post stuff that wouldn't be considered anything but porn. However not all of the nakedness is just sexual. It seems these kids have figured out how to actually find and post tasteful porno. It may sound crazy, but it's true. Many of these photos come with some sort of lesson, or romanticism to them. So parents, before you go digging through your teenagers phone and searching for the goods. Please realize that it's not the kind of porn you'd think, and this stuff can actually be laughable and or sweet. You can trust your kids. They'll thank you for it later.
3. Everyone has a thing
One of the biggest things on Tumblr is obsessions and perfect couples. There are also many fan bases for anything from Dr. Who, AHS, Classic rock, Supernatural and even Pokemon. I have seen many people "ship" the hell out of their favorites. I do too, it's part of Tumblr. You're free to be your awkward obsessive self on there. Nobody calls you out on it, because they're shipping their own likes too. It's part of being on Tumblr, so dig out those old ALF tapes and ship them hard.
4. Many kids are way too depressed
Ok, I understand every teenager is depressed and feels hopeless. It's part of being a teen. But honestly, some of these kids are taking it even further. It makes you wonder why nobody is noticing this and helping SOME of them. Again parents, calm down, if your kid is one of these then just open your eyes and help them. Going all gustapo on their life won't solve a thing, and will make things worse. I've noticed many of the kids on here are absolutely depressed. Some even admit to not wanting to roll out of bed everyday. However I also noticed that for every depressed kid, there are 2 others making that one smile. In a way Tumblr is working as therapy for these kids, to get them through those crappy teenage years.
5. There are many people just like you, the world is smaller than you'd think!
I was surprised at how many people I found who love the same things I do. It seems like by signing onto Tumblr you have discovered long lost family and friends. There are people who enjoy the same music, shows, fashions, literally everything. It's safe to say you can basically find your clone on Tumblr. This is a good thing. It makes you feel happy and sort of warm and fuzzy when you have people you can relate to. No matter their age either, most of those kids on Tumblr are more mature than your 45 year old uncle could ever hope to be. It's like one big melting pot for people just like you.
6. There's always something that will make you laugh
Aside for the occasional sad or boring post, Tumblr has loads of stuff that will have you cracking up. These people have amazing senses of humor and post some funny funny stuff. I've seen cats dressed as dinosaurs riding a roomba being chased by ducks. That is funny, and if you don't think so you just may need to lighten up. Tumblr is a great place to go to wind down from all the horror your boring mundane day has thrown at you, and have a good laugh while doing it. I guarantee you that you won't go more than 3 minutes before finding something to laugh at, and if you do than you're following the wrong people!
In all seriousness, I like Tumblr and recommend it. If you have a tumblr and would like to follow me you can do so by searching Fuzzycupcakes4 on Tumblr.
