1. Functional Movement
Some sports, like the ones listed in the slideshow, are excellent for shedding unwanted fat and ripping up the body. The reason why these sports are so effective is that they work the entire body in a functional way. In a typical match or game using these sports, you can expect to burn anywhere from 400 calories to 1000 calories or more depending on your body weight and how long you play them for.
3. Having Fun
Even the most die hard weightlifters will admit that heading to the gym to workout every day as their only form of activity can lose its' fun at times. Sports add an element of interconnections and socializing that is different compared to that of the gym. They also add a new kind of challenge, all still while aiding in fat burning and ab ripping.
4. Sports Can Shock the Muscles into Change
Some of these sports require the muscles to work in ways they'd be unaccustomed to in the gym with machines and weights. High repetition is a requirement in sports, and while most of high reps primarily aid in endurance muscle fiber training (Type I fibers), they are still enough to tone and shape the muscles, particularly, the legs, abs, arms, and shoulders.
