A 6-month-old was shot and died from five bullet wounds in Chicago Monday. The tragic incident occurred while her father was giving her a diaper change, FOX News reports March 12.
Baby Jonylah Watkins was pronounced dead at Comer Children's Hospital after the fatal shots were fired. Doctors tried performing surgery on her after the attack, Cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed. The 6-month-old's father -- Jonathan Watkins -- was also injured in the shooting and remains in critical condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Law enforcement were seeking any information to go on in the South Side neighborhood of Woodlawn where the shooting happened. They're looking for security camera footage or any evidence that may have been left behind by the shooter.
Police were told by witnesses that a gunman approached Watkins around 1 p.m. while he was changing his daughter's diaper in the front seat of a minivan. The man with the gun began firing his weapon that sent bullets to his side, buttocks and grazed his face. Jonylah was wounded in the thigh, shoulder, liver, bowels, and lungs.
The reports states that the Watkins have been involved with gun violence before. When the 6-month-old's mother -- Judy -- was pregnant with her, she was shot in the knee.
