6-month-old died after being shot 5 times in Chicago

Jonylah Watkins, a 6-month-old girl, was shot five times in Chicago and later died Tuesday morning.

Her father, Jonathan Watkins, was “changing her diaper in the front passenger seat of a Chevy Venture minivan.” That was when a gunman “approached them” and started shooting, according to the Huffington Post.

Jonylah was taken to Comer Children's Hospital where doctors operated on her for five hours, but she did not recover. Jonylah was wounded in “her lung, liver, leg, shoulder, and bowel.”

There is now a $6,000 reward for “information leading to the arrest” of this child’s killer. The community is obviously overwhelmed with the constant violence in Chicago.

Jonylah’s father is currently in critical condition as of Tuesday after being shot in his buttocks and was grazed in the face.

“Jonathan Watkins told the Chicago Sun-Times Tuesday that he has no idea who opened fire on him and his child, but sources told the paper that the shooting was possibly prompted by an angry Facebook post.”

According to police, Jonathan “has known gang affiliations.” They are unsure whether or not this father will collaborate with them in solving this case.

Unfortunately, this was not the first time the family was targeted by a gunman. “Jonylah's mother, Judy Watkins, was previously shot while carrying the child,” said the Huffington Post.
