Another set of remains may be the 5th body found in the Gilgo Beach serial murder investigation in New York. The case has eerie similarities to four bodies found in Atlantic City behind the Golden Key Motel.
The Atlantic City murder victims have been identified by their family and friends as prostitutes where their bodies were discovered in Dec., 2006. In New York, the victims were also working as prostitutes.
The Suffolk County Police are holding a 3 p.m. press conference to discuss the 5th set of remains found on Gilgo Beach on March 29, by the canine, marine and aviation bureau, according to a spokesperson for the department.
The discovery came after the search for missing person Shannan Gilbert was conducted on March 29, after the weather became more favorable for searching.
Gilbert was identified as a prostitute, who was missing from the area where the other four bodies were found in Dec., 2010.
"Remains that appear to be human were located by an office from the marine bureau off of Ocean Parkway, west of Cedar Beach", stated a Suffolk Police spokesperson. "These remains were approximately one mile east of where the other human remains were found."
The remains were taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner in Hauppauge, N.Y.
The search of the Oak Beach and Gilgo Beach areas continues, police said.
To date the Atlantic County Prosecutor has not ruled out a connection to the case in N.Y.
The four murdered Atlantic City prostitutes found in the marshy area behind a seedy motel in Atlantic City were found in similar circumstances as the women found in N.Y.
Their bodies were placed just off a main highway. They had no shoes on their feet and they were laid in a service ditch of dank water that flowed toward Atlantic City. Their faces were turned towards the Atlantic City skyline facing east.
The bodies identified in Atlantic City include: Kimberly Raffo, 35; Barbara V. Breidor, 42; Tracy Ann Roberts, 23; and Molly Jean Dilts, 20, all from Atlantic City.
The murdered women identified in N.Y. are: Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25, of Norwich, Ct., Melissa Barthelemy, 24, of Erie County, N.Y.; Amber Lynn Costello, 27, of North Babylon, N.Y.; Megan Waterman, 22, of Scarbourough, Me.
