Downstate has its Woodstock -- every now and then, and the Finger Lakes has its Winestock -- and has for the past four years. The fifth annual such event, set for noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 28, will be held at Three Brothers Wineries and Estates on the northeastern end of Seneca Lake.
Winestock bills itself as "a great celebration of New York wine and a fun educational opportunity with seminars throughout the afternoon which include talk and tastings." It is organized by the New York Wine Industry Association (NYWIA), with 18 participating wineries and several local food vendors involved in educating consumers not only about the wines and foods but also the many contributions the industry makes to the economy and quality of life.
Winestock tickets, priced at $15 in advance, are available online through Thursday, June 26. They also will be on sale through Friday at many Wegmans markets. Participating wineries are the host Three Brothers as well as Fox Run Vineyards, Miles Wine Cellars Atwater Estate Vineyards, Anthony Road Wine Company, Americana Vineyards, Fulkerson Winery, Villa Bellangelo Winery Frontenac Point Vineyard Estate Winery, The Winery at Marjim Manor, Thousand Islands Winery, Penguin Bay Winery, Lakeland Winery, Crooked Lake Winery and Merritt Estate Winery.
In addition to the wine and food samplings, there will be live band music and the introduction of three interactive educational seminars in the new educational tent open to the general public at $10 per person: 12:30 p.m., General Introduction to Wine Making and Wine Tasting; 2 p.m., Eat Local, Drink Local; 3 p.m., Hop, Hop, Hops. Details are available on the event website.
Three Brothers Wineries & Estates is a complex of three wineries -- Stony Lonesome Estates, Passion Feet Vineyard & Winer Bar and Bagg Dare Wine Co. -- and the War Horse microbrewery. It is located on the upper part of Seneca Lake at 623 Lerch Road in Geneva, Ontario County. Phone: (315) 585-4432.
