5th annual ‘Love Me Because…’ a success

The 5th annual “Love Me Because…” pet adoption event, held February 8, 2014 at Hood’s Do-It Best in Wyandotte, was a decided success. “Love Me Because…” finds permanent, loving homes for special needs animals who have difficulty being adopted through traditional means because of their medical issues or behavioral problems—or even simply because of their weight.

Figures obtained from the “Love Me Because…” committee indicate that the fundraiser and adoption event raised approximately $11,500. This was less than the amount raised at the 4th annual event in 2013, but 18 animals were adopted (16 at the event itself and 2 pending at the time the event ended). That was twice the number adopted the year before. In addition, 5 rescues participated this year--Friends of the River Rouge Animal Shelter, Keeper Kitties Rescue, P.A.W.S. of Michigan, Shelter to Home, and Wyandotte Adoption Center—as opposed to only three last year.
