The Will To Live Foundation is holding a 5k race in Johns Creek in North Atlanta and all proceeds will benefit the non-profit organization that focuses on preventing teen suicides. The third annual fun run takes place on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 and it’s an incredibly worthy endeavor. Last year, more than 1100 people from 10 states and 6 countries participated to raise over $35,000 and the Will To Live Foundation is hoping for an even bigger turnout this year.
The 411 about the 2013 Will To Live 5k Race in Johns Creek:
- When: Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013
- Time: Registration begins at 8 a.m. Race steps off at 9 a.m.
- Place: Shakerag Park in Johns Creek
- Registration: Age 12 to adult - $25 per runner or $20 per runner for teams, kids 12 and younger - $20 per runner or $15 per runner for teams.
- Online registration: Registration on Active.com ends at midnight on Jan. 31.
- On-site registration: Tickets can be purchased on day of race for an additional $5.
- Bonus: All runners receive a free Will To Live 5K t-shirt.

In October 2010, the Trautwein family suffered the biggest tragedy imaginable, the suicide of their teen son, Richard Williams “Will” Trautwein. Will’s parents, Susie and John Trautwein, founded the Will To Live Foundation in loving memory of their son and to help other teenagers who might not be able to find their own light. The non-profit organization’s mission is “to improve the lives and the ‘Will To Live’ of teenagers everywhere.” Through education, motivation, consultation, charity, support and most importantly, love and fellowship, Will To Live works for and through young adults to help them always find the good in life and a "Will To Live" through all of life's trials.
In 2012, the Will To Live Foundation expanded its message across the country. Propelled by the Life Teammates message, Will to Live accomplished the following achievements last year.
- Established a suicide prevention ministry and fund
- Awarded four Life Teammate scholarships
- Made over 200 speeches about love, hope and Life Teammates to kids, teens, youth groups, schools, scouts, parents and coaches
- Funded the “SOS” Signs of Suicide program for all Fulton County schools. Administrators from 96 schools were trained, effecting 93,000 students. Forsyth County schools and high schools in other states are also getting involved.
- Over 12,000 Life Teammate wrist bands and 10,000 Life Teammate stickers were handed out nationwide.
- Raised $18,000 during Willstock 2012
- Reached more than 10,000 teens with the Life Teammates message
- FOX Sports TV announcers and major league baseball players wore Will To Live bow ties
