I was not familiar with Boothbay Harbor, Maine until recently, when I received a pitch about their upcoming annual Windjammer Days Festival. Since my husband and I are in the midst of discussing travel plans this summer, I decided to research this festival as well as the location. What I discovered is quite beautiful! The Boothbay Harbor region considers itself the soul of the Maine coast. This quaint, charming New England village offers something for everyone whether it a peaceful time to refresh your soul, an active time boating, fishing, hiking, playing golf and tennis, or a family adventure. The picturesque town of Boothbay Harbor is gorgeous! It looks like a place where you can see a ton of movies being filmed.

The Windjammer Days Festival is one of Maine's signature events of the season to welcome gorgeous Windjammer boats into the Boothbay Harbor. The festival kicks off June 22nd-28th, with nine windjammers scheduled to arrive in Linekin Bay on Tuesday, June 24th and then under full sail during the parade of sail on Wednesday, June 25th.

The festival's community-led events are free to all, including lobster-eating contests, Boothbay Harbor One Design Boat Race, children's puppet shows, hometown street parade, an antique boat parade, live music on the bay and a spectacular fireworks display over the harbor. They also have a Cod Fish Race where relay teams have to transport a fish through the streets of town in full foul weather gear. They have various Kid’s Tents activities from face painting, knot tying, flag and sail making to pirate recruit training. The latter sounds fun. They take anyone from six to sixty. I’d give it a try and see if a pirate’s life is for me!

Other activities include the 3rd Annual Artists Alley & Kid’s Alley, part of the exciting expansion of the Windjammer Days Festival for the third consecutive year. Regional artists will display fine arts and fine crafts and watch a few artists in action. Kid’s Alley will have games and activities for all ages.

Boothbay Harbor sounds and looks like an amazing place to visit. From seeing the pictures and reading about it, this village is definitely worth checking out.
