A 52-year-old man has been accused of neglecting two dogs and has now been charged with two counts of first-degree animal cruelty in Tacoma on March 18, 2013. The Pierce County prosecutors office says the man was supposed to be caring for a Golden Retriever puppy that had been given to his daughter by her boyfriend’s mother. However, he did not feed it or provide it with medical care. He is also being accused of neglecting another dog that was also in his care.
Documents charging the man with the crime state “The boyfriend’s mother complained to the Tacoma Humane Society about the dog’s condition, claiming the dogs lived in filthy conditions and were “skin and bones.” An animal control officer checked on the dogs Jan. 27 and found that while they were kept in a relatively clean area with straw, they were “in bad shape.” The officer could see one dog’s ribs and believed the other one suffered from a skin condition. When she asked what kind of food the man gave the dogs, he was unable to name the product and did not have any dog food in the home at that time. Although the man initially declined to give the dog to his daughter’s boyfriend, he eventually signed both dogs over to the animal control officer at the end of January. A veterinarian determined that both dogs were emaciated, dehydrated, anemic and infested with fleas.”
We can expect to see him in court soon but his name has not yet been released.
