Take time to record and preserve your own personal history as well as taking care of your family’s genealogy. Amy Coffin of the We Tree Blog has authored this fine series of 52 prompts (one for each week of the year) to help you achieve your personal or family history goals. Use these prompts, as you see fit, to chip away at recording your memories as well as life’s lessons learned for the benefit of future descendants. Use your computer or record your memories on paper. If you have a blog, record them there. These make great prompts for interviewing relatives, too.

Here’s two challenges/prompts: Favorite School Subject and Worst School Subject
Week 42. Favorite School Subject. What was your favorite subject in school and why? Was it also your best subject?
Week 43 Worst School Subject. What was your worst or least favorite subject in school and why?
Tiffany Renner, of East Mesa, AZ states, “My favorite class in High School was psychology. That’s why I have a degree in Applied Psychology from ASU [Arizona State University]. I fell in love with Human Factors Engineering.” [a specific field of study] “My least favorite class was math. I have never been good in math. I even struggled with it in college.”
Putting the core ideas on paper is helpful as you compile your personal history one bit at a time. Expand on these memories later. Personal Historian Software is a great tool to use in doing so. It has a timeline feature that will keep your bits and pieces of information organized until you can get back to writing more at your leisure. It also includes a journal feature, so you don’t lose your “history-in-the-making moments”. It’s affordable, easy to use and great for gift-giving (or receiving). Watch for Personal Historian 2.
