Here’s this week’s personal history challenge/prompt: Teachers
Week 41. Did you have a favorite teacher when you were growing up? What class(es) did this person teach and why did he/she make an impact on your life?
In answer to this question, Mesa, Arizona resident R. Shawn Murphy said without hesitation, “Professor Hurd because he was passionate about what he taught, and he taught history. He taught me to love my country, appreciate the Constitution and to vote--to make a difference. I didn’t come to love it as a profession until much later in my life.” Professor Hurd was a history teacher at Hill Junior High in Long Beach, CA. Murphy now teaches High School history in Mesa, AZ
Family History Challenge: Take time to record and preserve your own personal history as well as taking care of your family’s genealogy. Use these prompts, as you see fit, to chip away at recording your memories as well as life’s lessons learned for the benefit of future generations. Use your computer or record your memories on paper. If you have a blog, post them there. These make great prompts for interviewing relatives, too.

Consider using Personal Historian Software to simplify your journal/personal history writing. It will keep things organized for you as you write a little each week. It has wonderful timelines and personal history prompts.
Remember that keeping a journal is part of your own history-in-the-making. Don't let expense stop you from writing. Use a 3-ring binder or spiral notebook if it suits your style.
