505 Games The Swarm: New title box art and official release date

505 Games has been quiet ever since they announced their current project but today they have announced the project's new title as well as the official release date. The Swarm has been redubbed MorphX and is scheduled to be released on June 1, 2010.

Oddly enough, the working title seems to fit the game more than its new title. MorphX sounds more like a video card or picture editing program. New title aside however, the game does look like it has improved since it was announced. When it was revealed, the game appeared to have graphics no better than the updated textures of the original Half Life and the gameplay looked clunky. The new gameplay trailer shows some improvement in these areas. The textures of some of the creatures still look outdated such as the one seen on the new box art but in game they look much better. The player character has also seen much improvement with an improved model that has personality instead of being a generic soldier.

As for gameplay, the shooting elements appear more dynamic and fluid while the melee combat was somewhat ignored. The only scene where melee combat is seen shows the same hack and slash combat from the original trailer but something about it looks better. For that aspect, we'll have to wait and see. Overall, the game does seem to be developing nicely though the cut scene portions of the trailer still look dated those will most likely be upgraded before release as well. The one thing that has yet to be addressed is voice acting. It would be nice to hear some dialogue during the trailers so we can at least get an idea of what to expect. The music of the trailer also wasn't anything to write home about so hopefully in future trailers we can hear some real music. If the developers use their time wisely and continue improving the game then maybe this game will be worth a buy. Watch the trailer below and judge for yourself.

Check back for more information as it's released.
