MIAMI, FL— 500 of the leading people in Miami with more than 350 of their best doggy friends, all dressed to the nines, and gathered together to enjoy Pawpurrazzi an elegant party thrown for the second year in a row by chairpersons Pat and Milton Wallace. All two and four legged guests enjoyed a wonderful evening at Pawpurrazzi 2010. It was an elegant event where everyone’s needs were catered to and approximately $500,000 was raised. Proudly also five dogs who were taken out of the shelter to attend the event were adopted out during the evening.
An informal cocktail party began the evening with free flowing cocktails and an array of comfort type hor’s d’ouevres—the sliders, miniature hot dogs, sweet potato French fries and small cups of tomato and broccoli soup were passed to guests as they arrived. Appetizer stations with a Mediterranean theme included a variety of Hummus’, Tabouli, pita breads and roasted vegetables. A sushi station completed the outdoor cocktail lounge with boats over flowing with a number of different sushi rolls. Guests mingled with each other and their dogs, all of whom were impressively well behaved. All dog attendees were spoiled-what would you expect from an event by the Humane Society! Dogs had their own buffet table provided by Purina One, offering all the different product lines they have, and some appetizers of Purina’s Beggin’ strips either with or without cheese. Purina even had doggie bags for guests to take home a little something for their best friends to enjoy later on perhaps as a midnight snack. Dogs weren’t forgotten for dessert either; puppy ice cream cups were presented to each guest at the end of dinner.
Bidding began on items from the impressive silent auction chaired by Juan Lopez, Vice President and General Manager of Saks; Dadeland, Marisa Cisneros and Ann Rubino, three people who reportedly know luxury.
After cocktails, the guests and their dogs moved into Jungle Islands Treetop Ballroom, fabulously designed by Karla Conceptual Experiences, and enjoyed a sit down dinner of Filet Mignon, grilled shrimp, and jumbo asparagus. Just after dinner guests were treated to the highlight of Pawpurrazzi 2010, “Great Pets Who Walk In Front of Great People” show where honored guests and their dog(s) were featured on the runway. This part was hosted by CBS4 anchor Cynthia Demos. Members of University of Miami Theatre Arts Department then entertained guests performing songs from the musical CATS. Some dogs in attendance did growl and bark at the cat actors! It was the only time during the evening they did so, I found it hysterical. A fantasy comes true dessert buffet was opened after the performance with over the top versions of: sundaes, s’mores, mini brownies and cupcakes, cookies, among other treats. Bananas fosters was all the rave, it was fabulous.
Top Dogs and Honorees were named: The Batchelor Foundation represented by Sandy, Jon, and Nancy Batchelor received special acknowledgement because of its generous contribution to the event. Kirk Landon and Pamela Garrison were applauded for being the first Pawpurrazzi founder-inductees in the Hall of Fame. “Their generous support was noted to be invaluable to the success and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts”, said Pat Wallace during her welcoming speech. Special thanks were given to corporate sponsor South Motors and their mascot Luky Dascal. Guests who were singled out for their commitment to the organization included Bunny Bastian, and Marisa Cisneros-Rizzon, who were the “Humane-itarian” and “Best of Breed”. “Animal Ambassadors and Star Dogs” included Dr. Fredric Brandt, Yvonne Eldredge and Emily Damiano, Barbara and F.W. Mort Guilford, Sherrill and Mary Ann Hudson, and Linda and Patrick McEnany.
“Diplomats and Doggie Darlings” were: Donna Shalala, President of the University of Miami and former Secretary of Health and Human Services under President Bill Clinton, Jeanette and Ted Fine, Christina and Robert Hudson, DJ and Steve Kerr, Sandy Zankl, Steven and Allison Zelkowitz, Melanie and Ryan Herman, Jeff and Yolanda Berkowitz, Sam Blum, Lady Beatrice Clancy, Ana May and Eugene Conese, Skip and Joyce Dickerson, Irene and Chris Korge, Helene and Marc Kovens, Juan and Carmen Lopez, the Munilla family, Jennifer and Richard Postrel, Ann and Frank Rubino, Bob and Sookey Schwartz, and Glenn Singer, Mayor of Golden Beach.
The Humane Society of Greater Miami is dedicated to placing every dog and cat into a loving home, and to promoting responsible pet ownership and spay/neuter programs. Thanks to Pawpurrazzi they will be well funded for the year to come because of the near $500,000 raised.
