500,000 piece Lego car is powered by air

Who would have ever thought that someday, there would actually be a life-sized, drivable car powered by air and built almost entirely out of Lego parts; well it's here and it's the real deal!

Steve Sammartino (pictured right), a Melbourne-based entrepreneur and Raul Oaida (pictured far left), a tekkie from Romania were looking to create something that would leave folks awestruck, so they built a hot-rod out of 500,000 Lego parts that was air-powered and could hit a top speed of 18 mph.

According to the dynamic duo, the dramatic-looking, eco-friendly car with an engine, seats and even a steering wheel made entirely out of Legos is powered by four orbital-styled engines, fueled by mere compressed air. All in all, 256 pistons are churning away to power this black and yellow plastic two-seater coupe.

The project which the pair so appropriately named Super Awesome Micro Project came together in Romania and after the vehicle was built, it was shipped to Melbourne, Australia. The project was funded by 40 backers, who donated $500 to $1,000 each, after reading a cryptic tweet sent out by Sammartino last February, who heralded his project as "awesome" and a "world's first."

The car is now parked at an undisclosed place in Melbourne and as far as the vehicle's investors, well, they were promised a zero monetary return according to the project's prospectus. The donors should however get some measure of satisfaction in knowing, that their dollars helped to create a life-sized vehicle made entirely out of Legos that actually runs. On the project's website, the financier's names have also been posted for all the world to see.
