Complex Magazine did the unusual and ranked the 50 most visually and architecturally displeasing college campuses in the world.
Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia earned top prize.
The northeastern states, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Pennsylvania may be known for its early American schoolhouses and its input on American education. But Complex found most of the nation's ugliest campuses in the state of New York.
New Jersey's Rutgers even earned high honors for its aesthetically unpleasing architecture on the yard. So did MIT.
Other noteworthy southern campuses that earned architecturally ugly awards are the University of Maryland at College Park (15th), NC State, LSU's Health Sciences Center, Florida State University, University of Texas- Dallas (13).
UofT at Dallas has architectural awards, and Complex reservedly offers props for that. In Oklahoma, Oral Roberts University ranked 4th on the list of ugliest college campuses.
But in first place is Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas. The crew of critics at Complex say the buildings "look like Monopoly pieces."
