Joanne Sodano of Jackson, N.J. a long time Jersey Shore Running Club member recently became a member of a more elite group the 50 State Marathon Club, completing marathons in all 50 states. She ran the Big Wild Life Runs Moose’s Tooth Marathon in Anchorage Alaska on August 18, 2013 in a time of 6:07:36.
Joanne joins fellow JSRC member Pegggy McKean who accomplished the 50 state marathon feat in September 2010.
According to Joanne her, “inspiration to finish all 50 States was that I wanted to show my children anything is possible”. On her trips she made sure that her husband Matt and her children traveled with her and each trip became an education adventure. She made sure they saw major landmarks and amazing museums.
Joanne’s first marathon was Philadelphia in November 2001 which she finished in 4:03:47. A few weeks later in December she did Honolulu in 4:24. From there on she kept going doing several marathons a year including the Ocean Drive Marathon in New Jersey in March 2003 in 4:27.
In regards to finishing her 50th Joanne remarked, “I was so happy to cross the Finish Line with my daughter, Samantha in my arms and one son, Alex, at my side.”
Joanne however is not done with marathons. Her next goal is to complete 100 marathons.
