The “50 Shades of Grey” movie favorite for the role of Anastasia Steele definitely seems to be Alexis Bledel as far as fans are concerned, but maybe they should be looking at her lookalike instead. Bella Heathcote’s star seems to be slowly rising, with Variety reporting on Feb. 14 that the Aussie actress has been cast in the thriller “The Curse of Downers Grove.”
Bella Heathcote starred alongside Johnny Depp in “Dark Shadows” and was named one of Variety 's 10 Actors to Watch last year. However, what makes her the perfect Anastasia Steele for the “50 Shades of Grey” movie is her remarkable resemblance to fan favorite Alexis Bledel. She has big blue eyes and delicate features just like the “Gilmore Girls” actress, but she’s closer to being the right age to play the college student who catches the eye of Christian Grey -- Alexis is 31 while Bella is 24.
Bella Heathcote hasn’t signed on for a lot of projects since “Dark Shadows,” and it’s surprising that the gorgeous actress isn’t getting more attention. After all, it’s not her fault that the Tim Burton film turned out to be terrible. Unfortunately Bella still probably won’t get a lot of buzz for “The Curse of Downers Grove” since it’s an indie film. It’s based on the book of the same name about a high school senior who is concerned about a curse that takes the life of one student each year.
The screenplay for “The Curse of Downers Grove” was written in part by Bret Easton Ellis. The “American Psycho” author also wrote the screenplay for the Lindsay Lohan movie “The Canyons,” which turned out to be a complete disaster. So “50 Shades of Grey” fans should be very happy that Ellis lost his campaign to write the screenplay for the movie that they’re so tired of waiting for.
Bella Heathcote does have the perfect name for Anastasia Steele. Since “50 Shades” started out as “Twilight” fan fiction, Ana once shared her first name. Bella also starred alongside Liam Hemsworth on the Australian soap opera “Neighbours” and in the Justin Timberlake movie “In Time.” Since she’s still struggling to get her career to really take off after her promising start kind of fizzled out, she’d probably sign on for “50 Shades” in a heartbeat. And since she looks so much like Alexis Bledel, Fifty fans shouldn't complain about Bella looking all wrong for the role.
So do you think that Bella would make a better Anastasia Steele than Alexis Bledel?
