’50 Shades of Grey’ movie: Shailene Woodley probably won't play Anastasia Steele

Another “50 Shades of Greymovie favorite can be crossed off the list of casting options. According to a March 19 report by HitFix, Shailene Woodley is set to star in “The Fault in Our Stars.”

The film is based on a popular young adult novel about a cancer patient who falls in love with another teen suffering from the disease after she joins a support group.

Shailene's casting in “The Fault in Our Stars” alone isn’t enough to completely count her out of the running for the role of Anastasia Steele in the “50 Shades” movie, but the 21-year-old actress has been a very hot commodity lately. She was mostly known for her role on the silly ABC Family show “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” before she wowed critics with her performance in the Alexander Payne film “The Descendants,” and she’s been scoring huge roles left and right ever since.

Critics are responding well to her teen drama “The Spectacular Now,” and she scored the role of Mary Jane Watson in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” However, her biggest role could be in the “Divergent” movie -- it’s based on a popular young adult novel set in a dystopian world, and it’s very possible that it could become the next “Hunger Games.”

Just like the “50 Shades of Grey” movie, a few of Shailene Woodley’s films will likely have sequels, so it’s hard to imagine that she’ll have time for the series of films based on E. L. James' erotic novels. There were once rumors that she was James' top choice for the role of Anastasia Steele, but it’s looking like she’s going to end up getting crossed off of the list of starlets that might play the student who signs on to become a submissive sex slave. However, her “Divergent” costar Theo James has a bit of a Christian Grey vibe going on, and he might not be too busy to play the dominant billionaire with a flogging fetish.

Right now Shailene Woodley seems more interested in signing on for PG-13 roles, so it seems very likely that she wouldn’t have been interested in auditioning for “50 Shades,” anyway. She joins a growing list of Anastasia favorites who won’t get the role -- Emma Watson and Mila Kunis have already said that they don’t want it.

However, there are still plenty of actresses who could score the part. Fan favorite Alexis Bledel is a little too old to play Ana and has no experience shooting nude scenes, but fresh-faced “Game of Thrones” beauty Emilia Clarke has flashed plenty of flesh and has experience dealing with an imposing, older male character. “Pretty Little Liars” actress Ashley Benson looks the part with her newly-brunette hair, and she’s actually stated that she would love to play Ana. She also showed a little skin in “Spring Breakers,” which featured a steamy threesome scene that she starred in.

So are you sad that Shailene will probably be too tied up with other projects to get tied up in Christian Grey’s Red Room of Pain? Or are you happy with who is left on the list of Ana options?
