’50 Shades of Grey’ movie: Rooney Mara is brave enough to play Ana

“50 Shades of Grey” movie favorites for the role of Anastasia Steele have changed little since casting talks began, with most fans rooting for “Gilmore Girls” star Alexis Bledel to score the part. However, according to a Feb. 4 report by Entertainmentwise, edgier actress Rooney Mara might be interested in playing Ana.

Rooney recently said of the roles she likes to pursue, “I have a lot of darkness and frenetic energy inside myself, so it’s easier for me to portray people with shades of grey.”

So she didn’t outright say that she wants to star in the “50 Shades of Grey” movie, but maybe she was dropping a hint that she’s interested while trying to avoid looking desperate. The aloof actress doesn’t seem like the type to use the press to beg for roles.

Rooney Mara is an Anastasia Steele contender who is very brave when it comes to her body. She stripped down in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” which called for quite a few raunchy nude scenes. Her goth girl character Lisbeth Salander looked like the type who would be into BDSM with her painful-looking nipple piercings, and she did get handcuffed to the bed in one scene.

However, Rooney Mara isn’t the only Anastasia Steele favorite who doesn’t fear nude scenes. Emilia Clarke goes au naturale in “Game of Thrones,” and brunette beauty Emmy Rossum has shown that she’s not ashamed of her body in “Shameless.” Emmy is also getting buzz for starring in the paranormal romance movie “Beautiful Creatures,” which has been compared to “Twilight.”

But Amanda Seyfried could be difficult to beat if she decides that she’s interested in the “50 Shades of Grey” movie. She proved that she can be sweet and innocent in “Les Misérables,” but she starred in some very steamy lesbian sex scenes in the movie “Chloe.” She's also comfortable without clothes in the biopic “Lovelace,” which is about the life of adult film actress Linda Lovelace.

Then there's one interesting Ana option that's not getting much attention from Fifty fans. Emily Browning was once favored for the role of Bella Swan in “Twilight,” but the actress isn’t getting much attention these days. Her movie “Sleeping Beauty” was all about a weird sexual fetish, and her role called for her to be naked quite a bit.
