The “50 Shades of Grey” movie might have two new frontrunners for the roles of Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. According to a March 21 report by Just Jared, “Arrow” actor Stephen Amell has admitted to attending meetings about starring in the movie about a BDSM relationship. And in an Entertainmentwise report from the same day, “Twilight” star Nikki Reed talked about the possibility of playing a student sex slave.
Stephen Amell said this about the movie: “I get questions about Christian Grey all the time. That project is a long way off. I know this, because I had a meeting about it. Long way off. I mean, not that long, but not close. I wouldn’t call it long, but I wouldn’t call it close.”
This comment could be interpreted two different ways. It’s possible that Stephen met with the “50 Shades of Grey” filmmakers because he’s on a shortlist of Christian Grey favorites, but Stephen didn’t clarify who he met with. It’s just as likely that he was referencing a meeting with his agent.
He and "Man of Steele" star Henry Cavill are the favorites who are closer to being the right age to play Christian, so the casting race could turn into a battle between two superheroes. Superman might have an edge over the Green Arrow with his super-strength and sexy spandex suit. However, Henry hasn’t said that the wants the role, while Stephen has said that he's interested. This might increase his chances of getting to trade his quiver of arrows for a flogger that will make Anastasia Steele’s lip quiver.
Speaking of Ana, a lot of actresses have excused themselves from that casting race -- Emma Watson and Mila Kunis have both made it clear that they don’t want the role. Author E. L. James said she doesn’t want “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart to play Ana, but maybe she’d be okay with another “Twilight” beauty getting the role. Brunette babe Nikki Reed is very good friends with “50 Shades” producer Dana Brunetti, so she’d certainly have no problem scoring an audition.
Here’s what she said when she was asked about starring in the “50 Shades” film: “I would consider working with Dana in any form.”
E. L. James did once say that her picks for the roles of Christian and Ana would surprise fans, so who knows? Maybe Nikki and Stephen will turn out to be the stars who take down heavy favorites like Ian Somerhalder and Alexis Bledel.
Do you think that they would make a good Christian and Ana?
