’50 Shades of Grey’ movie: Erik Odom gets casting buzz

50 Shades of Greymovie favorites Ian Somerhalder, Matt Bomer, and Henry Cavill might just lose the role of Christian Grey to a little-known actor named Erik Odom. According to a Feb. 28 report by Mstarz, Erik is getting buzz because he exchanged a few tweets with author E. L. James and spent the night drinking with her.

Some fans thought that E. L. James was endorsing Ian Somerhalder by responding to a tweet featuring a photo of the actor in a masquerade mask, but she’s gone two steps further with Erik Odom by actually communicating openly with him on Twitter and meeting him in person. James recently tweeted her thanks for a lovely evening to Odom and Jack Morrissey, the partner of “Breaking Dawn” director Bill Condon, and Erik responded by joking about drinking too much vodka during their night out. So who is Erik Odom?

“Twilight” fans know him as nomadic vampire Peter from “Breaking Dawn – Part 2.” Erik’s work before getting his big break mostly consisted of appearances in short films and TV series. He doesn’t have a lot of acting experience, but James did recently hint that fans might be surprised by her picks for the “50 Shades of Grey” movie. This could indicate that she’s considering a lesser-known star like Erik Odom over an actor with a big fan following like Ian Somerhalder.

Erik does look the right age for the role, and he once said this during an interview with the “Twilight” Examiner: “You know, I'm also working on something that I'm helping to create. There's a movie I can't say too much about but hopefully we're going to shoot next summer. It's a fun little project that has some interesting ‘Twilight’ connections as far as the people that are working on it, and that's pretty much all I can say now, but it's going to be really exciting.”

The “50 Shades of Grey” movie has a big connection to “Twilight,” but before Fifty fans get too worried about Erik stealing the role of Christian Grey away from Ian Somerhalder, they need to take a closer look at what he said -- he stated that he was “helping to create” something. This could indicate that he has more of a behind-the-scenes role in the project that he teased. Jack Morrissey also recently took to Twitter to poke fun at the “conspiracy theories” about Bill Condon and Erik being involved with the “50 Shades” film.

Perhaps E. L. James, Erik, and Jack Morrissey are working on a different project with a “Twilight” connection that has nothing to do with “50 Shades” -- maybe Peter is going to get his own short film or something. However, this explanation still doesn’t make a lot of sense since Stephenie Meyer surely wouldn’t want another author screwing around with her characters.

So do you think that Erik is a Christian Grey contender or not? And what secret project do you think that he’s working on?
