The “50 Shades of Grey” movie recently got another great Christian Grey contender when Chace Crawford said that he’s interested in the risqué role. However, according to a Feb. 8 report by Wetpaint, a new fan poll reveals that his “Gossip Girl” costar Ed Westwick is a more popular pick for the part.
In the poll, Ed shockingly beat out a slew of sexy stars, including heavy fan favorites Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder. Unfortunately Chace wasn’t included in the poll, so it’s possible that he could have taken Ed down if he'd been given the opportunity. So would Chace or Ed make a better Christian Grey in the “50 Shades of Grey” movie?
Chace Crawford’s looks have been compared to those of Ian Somerhalder, who is many fans’ ideal Christian Grey. He’s been included in quite a few fan polls, and he’s played a character that has something in common with Christian. In “Gossip Girl,” Nate begins a relationship with a beautiful older woman (Elizabeth Hurley). Christian’s life was also shaped by a cougar (Elena, a.k.a. “Mrs. Robinson”).
Chace’s Nate is more of a good guy in “Gossip Girl,” while Ed Westwick’s Chuck is a narcissistic bad boy. Ed probably hasn’t been included in many fan polls before now, and he’s probably not what most fans picture when they think of Christian Grey since he has a slightly puffy face and small, dark eyes.
Chace seems to be the clear choice when it comes to looking the part, but Ed has more experience playing a complicated, complex character that evolves just like Christian does. However, since Chace probably wants to play a character that’s completely different than Nate, he would probably work really hard to accurately portray Christian. He’s also more likely to score an audition because of his looks.
