Charlie Hunnam, the lead actor in the hit television series "Sons of Anarchy", was confirmed on Monday as securing the role of the fictitious Christian Grey in the upcoming film adaptation of the mommy porn book "50 Shades of Grey". The confirmation came from the official Twitter account of EL James who authored the book.
The female lead of Anastasia Steele will be played by Dakota Johnson of "The Social Network" fame.
The book series became such a massive hit, due in large part, to e-readers. The targeted female market can clandestinely read the sexually naughty tome while waiting in to pick up kids in the carpool lane on their Nook and none is the wiser.
It will be interesting to see how Hunnam tackles the role because those that are literary, motorcycle, and film purists that have, to date, managed to avoid the 50 Shades of Grey marketing train, may actually now be willing to watch the film version.
Literary fans have avoided the book series due to rampant criticism over the tragic use of verbiage and punctuation; most can never get past the first couple pages.
Bikers have no need to read the series because they already wear leather and carry whips on their handlebars.
Film purists will probably watch it just to compare to the classic soft S&M film hit "9 1/2 Weeks".
The tentative release date for the film is August 1, 2014.
