Good Will is always an experience for the thrifty fashion shopper, and we went a bit farther afield this weekend. The Good Will thrift store in Lexington has racks and racks of dresses, shirts and blouses, sweaters and jackets, nightclothes, formal wear, and much, much more. It is an attractive building, spacious, well lit, well organized, extremely clean, and has plenty of off-street parking. This week they are featuring a sale on books and videos at four for a dollar and purses and wallets also at 4 for one dollar. .On Sunday and Monday of Labor Day weekend, EVERYTHING in the store will be 50% off. If you live in West Columbia, it is not far; if you live in the city or the northeast, take I-20 west to exit 61 and turn right; then follow the map to the store location in Lexington. Each week Good Will marks a different colored tag merchandise half price. Often they are placed on separate sale racks, but occasionally are mingled in with items with other colored tags.
The one dollar rack at Good Will almost always seems to yield a treasure, if one is willing to take a little time to sort through everything that is hanging tightly together. This week’s treasure was a pair of County Seat slim fit jeans by Nuovo Jeanswear in flawless condition. When looking at fashions, I always check the size tags attached inside and sometimes try on clothing just to be sure it fits well. These faded wash jeans are great for year-round wear, especially during the cool mornings we have been enjoying recently. They can be dressed up with a jacket or tunic or dressed down with a tank or tee for almost any occasion.
Visiting Good Will is a little like a hunting expedition. It takes time and patience but can be well worth it. The stores are all large, well lit, spacious, well organized and clean. The sales staff is friendly and sometimes very helpful. It always leaves me with a good feeling to know that I am a small part of helping a worthy cause and finding a treasure in the process.
