Laguna Madre Humane Society is assisting in the rescue of approximately thirty dogs from Milagro Animal Sanctuary located in Encino, TX. The founder, Kelly McGouran, has rescued dogs from shelters in Houston and other Texas towns as well as other states and Canada. She has operated under a few different group names and was previously cited by the Selkirk, TX City Council.
Ms. Mc Gouran said she is currently in Canada due to illness and left the animals in the care of someone else when they were stricken with an unknown illness. The facebook page for the rescue at www.facebook.com/KellyBarkwell became unavailable today.
On September 7, Laguna Madre Humane Society stated, “We went out today and evaluated the dogs who need to be rescued from the hoarding situation. Thanks to some dedicated and loving volunteers who have put their own money and lots of time into the dogs, they are recovering from an illness that struck the place they were kept. A few did not make it. Several are still in bad shape, but most appear to be on their way back. They will need food and TLC. And we need fosters!! There are some awesome dogs out there. Shitzus, Danes, A Rottie, and several cute mixes of all sizes!”
About twenty dogs still remain on the property. Anyone wanting to volunteer or donate can contact the Laguna Madre Humane Society at (956) 943-5647 or through email at lmhsToday@gmail.com. They can also be contacted at their website http://lmhstoday.com or on facebook here.
