February is National Spay/Neuter Month and dog lovers in Lucas County, Ohio can get their Pit Bull or Pit Bull mix spayed or neutered for the greatly reduced fee of $5 thanks to the Fix-a-Bull program sponsored by PetSmart Charities. All dogs must be properly licensed in 2013 before surgery can be scheduled, and appointments are required. The spay/neuter surgery will be performed by Humane Ohio, a non-profit organization serving the greater Toledo area that offers low-cost spay/neuter; the $5 fee will also include a microchip implant.
All breeds of dogs can be spayed and neutered at Humane Ohio in Toledo for between $65-$110, depending on the size of the dog -- a fee considerably less than that normally charged by veterinarians in the area. Vaccinations are also available at the time of surgery at a reduced rate.
The Pit Bull is no longer on Ohio’s list of vicious breeds, and many loving Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes are available for adoption through the Lucas County Dog Warden in Toledo.
