The recent episode of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" was not only explosive, but eye opening. Kendra Moore admittance of unresolved issues has probably resulted in failed relationships, Momma Joyce and family not fond of her daughter's engagement and more. Although some are viewers are in shock of the current revelations the author see things from a different perspective, relationship lessons can be learned on the show. This article gathered five important relationship lesson that can carry us through life and/or also help us during current relationship issues in marriage or friendship:
Keep your family out your business
There is an old school rap song by K-Solo titled "Your Mom's In My Business" and it discusses how a mother overbearing attitude can be the ending of their relationship. The song is fitting for Kandi Burress current situation as the singer is preparing for her marriage to her fiance Todd. Her mother Joyce (affectionately called Momma Joyce) is not in agreeance with the thought of marriage and made that known to both Kandi and Todd. Mama Joyce is saying "she heard" and "they" said Todd and Camron (Kandi's best friend) are sleeping together.
Both Camron and Todd are appalled by the accusations and want Kandi to talk to her mother about it, but Kandi refuses as she has the up-most respect for her mother. The author received strong advice from her aunt in church awhile ago. Her aunt stated" Congratulations on your engagement and the best thing you and your husband to be can do to have a great relationship is to keep things between each other. If any problems arise, work them out, but keep people out of your business. Kandi might want to take the same guidance the author received!
In a relationship, communication is key
Apollo has been having issues with his wife since it was revealed that Apollo kept in contact with his wife adversary Kenya Moore via text messages! Apollo wife, Phaedra was not happy about the revelations (cannot blame her), and choose to ignore him, but Apollo was not having that. Apollo spoke how he felt but want to get over it their dispute, and he also admitted he was wrong for keeping in contact with Kendra. Since Phaedra she feels its inappropriate, he will respect his wife wishes.
Communication between spouses is imperative and key in a successful relationship. Doesn't matter how bad of the topic, discussing the issue to find a resolution can only improve your marriage. Another interesting point Apollo brought up is that he misses what they use to do (having sex in the bathroom, etc.). Regardless of how stressful life maybe or addition to the family, you have to make time for each other. Having a date night or having sex in places you have not had it in awhile can keep the spark in your marriage going.
Co-parenting can have positive results
It's great that "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" share some of the spotlight on co-parenting. Cynthia Bailey and actor Leon discuss their thoughts on their teenage daughter's Noelle and her boyfriend. The conversation moves quickly to sex and Cynthia cringes at the thought of discussing the birds and bees with her daughter! Leon said when she was born, he was preparing himself for his daughter different stages of life (boyfriends, marriage, etc.), and he will feel comfortable talking about sex with his daughter. People can co-parent for the greater good, their child and the results can be positive!
Unresolved issues can affect your future relationships
Kenya Moore had a heart felt talked with her aunt Lori on her future. Kendra came to the realization that she might not have her marriage with children and also have unresolved issues from her mother abandoning her as a child which might be the reasons for her failed relationships and friendships. Unresolved issues such as child abandonment can result in various emotional and behavioral issues in adulthood such as depression, mistrust of people, lack of confidence and more. The only way for Kenya to find peace in the situation is to acknowledge and confront the events, either by consulting with a therapist and/or meeting with her mother.
Lack of familial support can have negative results
Momma Joyce came into the bridal store with Kandi aunts Bertha and Nora to show her daughter support although she does not approval of her daughter possible nuptials. Kandi's mother was not expecting to confronted about her negative comments from Camron which resulted in Momma Joyce attempting to hit Camron with her shoe! Joyce also said Carmen not only wore Kandi's left over hair she also is jealous of her daughter! Kandi tried to diffuse the situation by trying on another dress, but she returned to her aunts and mother disapproving her upcoming nuptials.
Kandi stresses the importance of family bond during the introduction of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta". To receive disapproval from people she respects and admire is hurtful. Such disapproval can be stressful and can have an individual second guess their relationship. Momma Joyce intuition about Todd maybe right or wrong, but throwing shoes and cursing is not making any point valid. Kandi and Todd are the ultimate decision makers in their relationship and it should be as such.
