With all the new information recently released about the 3DS, there’s more reasons then ever why the 3DS is going to be a must get handheld when it’s released. Here’s the current top 5:

1. It’s a graphical powerhouse. If you saw or read about the recent youtube.com tech demo mentioned in another article, the 3DS is equipped with a Pica200 Graphics Processing Unit made by DMP, a Japanese-based company. It’s capabilities rival that of the Wii and is far superior to the Nintendo DS’s GPU. Graphics that look that good on a handheld will make for a high quality gaming experience.

2. 3D without the need for glasses. Though this has been talked about many times over, it’s still worth mentioning again. At the recent Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the hands on demo many people got of the 3DS has shown the 3D is really good. Not only does the 3D have a lot of noticeable depth at higher settings, it has a slider that lets users adjust that depth or turn it off completely. Many of the skeptics were impressed; Andy Hoover of Nintendojo went as far as to say “never has eating my own words been so thoroughly enjoyable.” Additionally, it’s going to be the first handheld device on the market with 3D capabilities.

3. Solid lineup of games. The system hasn’t even gotten a official release date yet and it already has a long list of well known first and third party titles. You can read more about those in the Top 5 Anticipated Nintendo 3DS games article. With so much developer support and interest this early on, the 3DS may become one of the most strongly supported systems on the market.

4. Take pictures in 3D. Not only will Nintendo’s new handheld be the first to offer 3D, it also is one of the first to offer a dual camera method that allows it to take 3D pictures. Though 2D pictures are still fine, adding an extra dimension adds a whole new layer of entertainment for picture taking.

5. The analog stick. Many people appreciate the freedom of a control button that goes in any direction. More recently, you can find one in the form of the Nintendo’s Wii’s Nunchuk attachment for it’s wireless controllers. The one downside to analog sticks is gamers have only been able to use them on consoles because they haven’t been implanted into handheld devices in the past. The 3DS will be the very first handheld to offer this type of control on a portable device.

While one or two of the above mentioned reasons would already make for a decent handheld gaming device, Nintendo has gone over the top with the 3DS by including a lot of great features that gamers of all ages will appreciate.

I love the 3DS, but I wouldn't say it is the first handheld with an "analog stick." It isn't really an analog stick, and if you count that type of control as being first, I would say that the PSP did it first... although there may be some older handheld that was ahead of its time that had one too I think. Can't remember. Either way, the 3DS's slide pad is an evolved form of the PSP's control nub.

Right now, I'm still unconvinced. Although this is a completely new platform, rather than just releasing a new larger NDS. The graphics will rival that of the wii? I'm sorry, but the wii's graphics are not near anything that great. The PSP still has better graphics, and I believe they are going to be releasing a PSP2.

That being said, the 3DS will be extremely popular to children, especially this the list of titles that will be released. You can't go wrong with Mario Kart or Animal Crossing. If anyone knows how to market a product, it's Nintendo. I am interested in seeing the 3D capabilities myself and check out the 3D photo-taking capability. I just hope this time, they make photos easier to share than on the DSi.

Iz this hand held will be popular for all ages since titles like metal gear and assassin's creed and etc are coming out for 3ds plus the psp2 only has like 8 titles so the 3ds holds up far better then the psp2

yeah but psp2 is hardcore. i want both 3ds and psp2. psp2 has games like illzone cod Uncharted, GT, and loads more, double touch screen and it is so much more powerful and better graphics. but i want both might pre order now.

I disagree with the part about 3ds being woth buying it has more downs than ups Sure it has better graphics but then when you think about it, it requires a big processer which needs lot of engery. That energy comes from a bit larger model of a ds lite battery and it only delivers 3-5 hours of game play now that is a killer. Plus also the price is incredibly high, and i can go on, but my concultion is that, the 3ds is not worth buying until the battery problem ( which i think a company is working to double the hours) and the price drops
