Weight loss is something that many people will battle with throughout their life time. However, it can be twice as hard for teenagers. But it is still possible for you to win the battle of the bulge.
Your parents may not be very health conscious and you may have to eat with the rest of your family. Suggesting healthier ways of preparing meals and talking to them about healthy food alternatives may get them to develop healthier eating habits. One of your friends may have pulled out a giant candy bar just as you started feeling good about walking away from the vending machine. Or perhaps when you hang out with your friends, they often vote to stop by your favorite hamburger spot. Eating before you leave the house will help keep you from making bad food choices. If you must go with them order a cheese burger instead of one with a double patty and a baked potato instead of an order of fries. If you are extra hungry start with a salad and a bottle of water. Avoid going to the grocery store with your parents. Ask them to bring you back healthy snacks such as salt-free pretzels are yogurt.
Lack of education about diet and exercise
In school you may not have gotten the information you needed to make healthier food choices or maybe you spent most of the class day dreaming. Either way it goes, you don’t have a full understanding of what it means to be an attractive individual. Once you realize that dieting is not a good option for optimal health and staying fit you will begin to eat, drink, and exercise more properly. The library and book stores are full of books that gives you low-fat, healthy recipes, information about good and bad fats, and other unhealthy ingredients.
Being motivated for the wrong reasons
It is not enough for you to one day notice that you have gained fifteen pounds to spur you to lose weight. Excitement over fitting into a certain pair of denim jeans or attempting to get your boyfriend back from someone else won’t work either. Your ultimate goal should be to become a healthier human being. Then and only then will you be able to keep the weight off.
People that are active do a better job of getting and staying in shape. Instead of driving to the store, try walking. Take a walk through the mall with a friend who is also interested in being fit when you go shopping. Join a sports team at school. Just make sure that the exercise routine you choose is enjoyable and not too strenuous for you. Some form of exercise for at least thirty minutes each day is sufficient. This is as long as you don’t gobble down a bag of chocolate chip cookies right afterwards.
Some teenagers over eat when they become depressed while others choose to go long periods of time without food. However, both of them are at risk of becoming obese. Don’t allow your bad mood to get the best of you. Eat foods that are delicious as well as low in fat. Don’t spend your free time moping around the house. Call your close friends and see if they would like to hang out. Go someplace where food want be such a big distraction.
