5 Puppies abandoned on Missouri highway need homes (Photos)

Five tiny puppies left to die in rural Clay County, Missouri will soon be ready to go to new homes. A couple driving in the area found the puppies abandoned in a tote along Highway Y near Crystal Lakes, MO. The puppies were found the weekend before New Year's Eve.

Thankfully, the puppies were found before they froze to death- area temperatures that weekend dipped into the teens.

The five black and white puppies, perhaps Border Collie/Lab mixes, were turned over to Excelsior Springs Friends of Animals pet rescue. The pups were cold. tired and very hungry when the arrived in rescue. After they ate, they slept for about 10 hours straight.

The pups, all males, will be ready to go to new homes on January 15th. Volunteers caring for the adorable puppies have named them: Bailey, Boomer, Buddy, Frankie and Scout. The puppies all seem to be healthy and no worse the wear for their ordeal.

They are currently being cared for in two foster homes in Kansas City. Each has received their first set of vaccinations. They will all be checked over by a veterinarian and receive any necessary veterinary medical care before they are adopted.

Excelsior Springs Friends of Animals will include a certificate for necessary vaccinations and the pet's neuter with each adoption.
