The things that can be done in business today that you couldn’t do just five years ago are simply amazing. Many tasks can be done from the palm of your hand that used to require much larger, bulky gadgets just a short time ago. This allows for freedom like never before. For this reason, the iPod Touch is a weapon many business owners have in their business arsenal. Should you?
Turning your Touch into a mobile office is pretty easy to do. There are plenty of free iTouch applications that will make it seem like you are in the office, when really you’re at your local coffee shop with an iced cappuccino relaxing in a comfy chair. Here is a sampling of some must-have business apps if you’re using the iPod Touch:
Google Mobile App - If you use Google’s wide array of services for your business getting this app is a no-brainer. They make it really easy for you to check your Gmail, and chat with your employees or coworkers with Google Talk. You can access your work-related documents with Docs, and keep your appointments with Calendar. Knock out your most important to-do’s with Tasks, or find where you are with Maps. The best part is that it all integrates with your Google account so when you get back to your desktop in the office it’s like you never left.
Wi-Fi Finder - Your iPod Touch can feel more like a paperweight when you don’t have a connection. Use this free app to find the nearest hotspots wherever you go. They have a gigantic list of free hotspots for you to connect with. You’re able to download this list so you can use it when you’re not connected, avoiding the classic catch 22 of needing a connection to find a connection.
Skype – Your iPod Touch may not be an iPhone, but that’s ok. Just use Skype, one of the best iPod Touch applications, and make calls from anywhere that has Wi-Fi. You can make local or international calls that sound pretty decent for a few cents per minute, and of course, you can talk to anyone that has Skype without spending a dime.
Dragon Dictation - You can speak a lot faster than you can write or type and this app let’s you turn your voice into text. It’s great for when you’re on the go and inspiration strikes. You can leave memos for yourself, write emails, or even construct blog posts, articles, or status updates while on the go. You’ll need a microphone for it to work, but if you’ve got a headset for use with Skype that should work just fine.
UPS/FedEx/USPS Mobile - Pick your courier of choice, download their respective app, and you’ll be well on your way to sending and receiving packages while out and about. Track your packages, produce shipping labels, or find your nearest shipping center all from your iPod.
