Duct tape crafts have come a long way since the first time someone made a wallet, and there doesn’t seem to be any end to what creative crafters will come up with next. Sometimes called duck tape (from the brand of tape with the same name), it’s available in a plethora of colors and patterns that will boggle the mind. Here are five fun crafts that can be made with this versatile tape.
- Jo-Ann Fabric and Crafts shares a cool kite made out of duct tape, just in time for heading to the beach or park as the weather warms up. This would be a great project to have the kids make at an outdoor party, and they could play with their kite when finished.
- This little tote bag made out of duct tape is perfect for when you don’t want to carry a big bag, but still need something sturdy. The kids could get involved in this one too, and use it to carry their own treasures. The basic pattern could be modified to make a bigger tote bag, perhaps to carry the knit or crochet project you’re working on.
- Are you a jogger or walker who needs a way to hold your keys when you’re out on the trail? Crafty Soccer Mom shares how to make a duct tape lanyard that might be just what you need. I could see this also being useful as an eyeglass holder for those of us who need to wear reading glasses while knitting or crocheting, but can never find them when we need them.
- Are you old enough to remember the chains we made out of gum wrappers as kids? Jo-Ann Fabric and Crafts chimes in again with this cute and colorful clutch bag that’s made in a similar manner, but out of duct tape instead. In eye-catching colors, it will go with any fun outfit, and it’s a lot more useful than the gum-wrapper chains.
- This fireman Halloween costume is a cinch to make from just a black shirt and pants (sweats work great) and yellow duct tape, which can be topped off with a dollar store fireman’s hat. I don’t know any little boy who wouldn’t love to be a fireman with this costume for Halloween, and moms will appreciate that it’s cheap and easy to make, even at the last minute.
