My community is chocked full of small businesses that have hung out their shingle and chosen to take the entrepreneurial route. Whether someone is a massage therapist, owner of a food cart or an artist, one thing they have in common is a strong desire to become more successful. It’s hard work being a small business owner. Being successful can mean different things for different folks, but the obstacles to get there seem to be similar across the board.
These five gems offer simple strategies to overcome any obstacles to your success, regardless of your goals or challenges. Although these are important for business owners, they can be applied to anyone’s personal goals.
1. Be determined.
Make a decision to go all the way to the top. Most people stay where it feels safe. and yet, real success requires determination not safety. It’s essential to go past that familiar place and reach for the real desire. Nothing is wrong with choosing to stay safe, but it’s important to know this is a choice. It might be scary to take a risk or decide to learn something new, but determination is the key.
2. Recognize the barrier.
Most people will know what is holding them back if they stop and quiet their minds enough to listen. It could be a new skill is needed, a quality to be developed, or an action to be taken. It’s important to find out what it is, and acknowledge and name it. Once something is named, this is the first step to gaining power over it.
3. Be surrounded by positive people.
Jim Rohn says. "You are a culmination of the 5 people you spend the most time with. Positive energy is contagious and makes one feel joyful, happy and creative. With a positive state of mind, will one find solutions to problems and then be able to face any challenge.
4. Create an uncluttered and attractive workspace.
Have a look at your office or work area. Does it feel good or do you feel distracted when you are in this space? People have different work styles. Some people need to have everything neat and put away and others work better with papers spread out. Regardless of your style, one simple thing to do to make any office more energized is the simplicity of fresh flowers on your desk.
5. Keep your commitments to people.
Relationships are the cornerstone of running a business. Take time to have lunch with peers. Initiate, call people back, say thank you, give appreciation, and offer help. It will come back multiplied.
These five strategies are simple, but powerful and will support success in any business venture.
