5 classic movie inspired ideas for National Hobby Month

January just so happens to be National Hobby Month and if you're a classic movie fan then here are five hobby ideas that go with classic cinema and goes with those who just love cinema!

1. Do movie crosswords

Want a hobby on the go? Crosswords are the best for that, you can do them while enjoying a cup of coffee on a Sunday afternoon or you can take it with you at work to do during break-time. Of course if you love classic cinema then you need to buy this, TCM Classic Movie Crossword puzzles, and test your movie knowledge.

2. Write your own movie

Okay if you really want to get creative then try and write your own kind of movie. You've seen "Casablanca" or "Gone With the Wind," a million times so now it's your turn to write your own 'classic movie.' If you're interested in writing a movie, then check out these two books, The Complete Book of Scriptwriting or Save the Cat!: The Last Book on Screenwriting You'll Ever Need. Also if you have a camera, direct your masterpiece!

3. Start a movie poster collection

Are you a collector? If you love to collect things then start collecting some movie posters from the Golden Age of Cinema. Allposters, is a great website to find some poster deals and they have a lot of movie posters.

4. Just watch, keep track, and learn!

Here's one of the easier hobbies out there (though the hardest part is finding the time) just watch classic movies. If you love them, then your hobby is probably already sitting on the couch and just hanging out either watching TCM or your own collection. Okay, my advice though is try something new, if you don't watch foreign cinema, try it this year or if you don't know a lot about a decade like 30s or 70s, start learning more about it. Literally think outside the box and learn about a new director, decade or country. Also, keep track of the movies you watch, make a movie log. Write about your movie experiences and keep a journal. This works great with friends and family too, as a family start watching different movies and have discussions.

5. Blog about classic cinema

Blogging is a very popular hobby and if you love movies then you might want to share your thoughts and ideas about movies on a blog. Wordpress, Tumblr, and Blogger are three great places to start a free blog. Number 5 also works with number 4 too, you can blog about your movie experiences. Just for an idea, let's say, you never watch Swedish films before, so create a blog about your thoughts on the movies you see and about the directors that you learn more about.

So those are just some hobby ideas that work if you just love movies. I hope that for the new year that you try a new hobby either it be writing a script or just watching and learning more about different cinemas.
