Genesee County, MI - The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has just offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) or responsible for dumping a dog who had been used in fighting.
On September 30, the Genesee Township Police Department received a call from someone who reported witnessing two young males place a trash bag in a ditch and toss a sheet over it. When the man approached them, they quickly fled the scene.
Inside the bag, the witness found a young, chocolate-colored, female pit bull. She was covered with deep wounds and a severely injured leg, all consistent with those sustained in dog fighting.
The dog was rushed to a local emergency veterinary clinic. However, her injuries were so grave she was euthanized.
Jill Fritz, Michigan state director for The HSUS, stated: “Animal fighting will not be tolerated in our state. Dog fighting is a barbaric and sadistic crime. We hope our reward helps motivate a conviction in this case.”
Anyone with information is urged to call Genesee Township Police Officer Jim Broughton at 810-640-2000 and press 1.
