The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has issued a press release regarding the death of one Palagor Obang Jobi, 23, of Savage. Jobi was at Nina’s Grill in Burnsville on Sunday night when he was fatally shot.
Police have arrested a suspect in the homicide, one Shavelle Oscar Chavez-Nelson, 31, after he fled the scene of the crime. Burnsville police were searching for the 1983 Buick LeSabre that Chavez-Nelson had been driving, but announced about an hour ago that they have found the vehicle and are now searching it for evidence.
Although Chavez-Nelson is in custody and the vehicle he was driving has been found, the police and the community are still concerned because Chavez-Nelson was seen in surveillance footage with his former girlfriend, 20 year old Anarae Kristine Schunk who has since gone missing.
Schunk was last seen with Chavez-Nelson at Nina’s Grill on Sunday night. She has not been in contact with her friends or family since Sunday night and has been officially reported as missing. Schunk’s friends and family say that this behavior is out of character for her and they are very concerned about her whereabouts. Schunk is a currently majoring in sociology at the University of Minnesota, and her friends and family describe her as a bright young woman who was trying to help out Chavez-Nelson as he tried to get his life together.
Schunk and Chavez-Nelson had broken up about a year ago, but remained friends, and it is rumored that Schunk recently loaned Chavez-Nelson $5,000. But apparently even Schunk had reservations about Chavez-Nelson, because although they were friends after breaking up, Schunk was concerned enough about his character that she made a point of telling people when she was going out with him so that they could make sure that she had returned home safely.
Chavez-Nelson is in custody, but has refused to answer any questions regarding the homicide or the whereabouts of Schunk.
Police have said that they understand the community being concerned over the missing woman, but they don’t want anyone searching for her near Nina’s grill yet, as these searchers may contaminate what is already known to be the scene of one homicide. Police have also questioned a woman named Ashley Conrade who was at Nina’s Grill Sunday night. She is said to be a person of interest in connection with the Jobi homicide, although police are not saying how she may have been involved.
Schunk’s friends say that she is an innocent girl who got involved with the wrong guy. Others accuse Schunk of being involved in the homicide at Nina’s Grill and say that she is “hiding, not missing.”
