Following an uneventful 0-0 draw with the Vancouver Whitecaps, the Goats now turned their attention to their Cascadian rivals, Seattle Sounders. For Seattle, it’s business as usual hosting an Open Cup match at the Starfire complex. For the Goats, it’s the 4 time in their existence that they make the journey to the north, in the path to an Open Cup championship. "4th time?!", you say? Well, how did the 3 previous encounters in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup go?

Future MLSers Sebastian Le Toux and Roger Leveque combined for a brace and a late tally respectively to insure the Goats early elimination in the 3rd round (1st round where MLS teams enter the fray). On the field at Qwest Field (now Century Link) that day for the Goats was the likes of Sacha Kljestan, Maykel Galindo, Jesse Marsch, and Claudio Suarez. To say the Goats were phoning it in that night would be an understatement.

Paired up again in the 3rd round of the tournament like the year prior, the Goats this time marched into the now infamous Starfire Complex in Tukwila, Washington. And like the year before, disappointment awaited them. Fielding a near strength lineup that featured Brad Guzan, Jonathan Bornstein, Sacha Kljestan, Paulo Nagamura, and Justin Braun, the Goats were once again undone by future MLSers Sebastian Le Toux (who scored late in the 1st half) and Taylor Graham (who iced the match in the 80th minute).
