The 4th of July is a holiday that should make us all take a moment and think about the men and women that have given their all to protect us. Americans also love to have fun on this day. Kids sometimes get lost in the mix when we talk about our Independence Day. So here are a few things that kids and parents can do together to have more fun before the fireworks. These projects are thanks to “Family Fun”.
On the fourth it does tend to be a bit hotter and we all wish we had a fan or four. So this first project is making a simple fan. There are many different ways you can do this.
Needed:
• Card Stock
• Stickers
• Wooden Tongue depressor
• Printer Access(If you don’t use the stickers)
Ok, so you want to cut the card stock to the shape you want. This could be a star, a bell or a simple square. If you print your design, then wait to cut until you are done printing. Once cut, you then glue this to the depressor. If you didn’t print your design then you can start to decorate the fan the way you wish. An example is using blue card stock and putting stars on it.
Next, we all know kids love to have a baton to wave around and get others’ attention. So why not make one instead of spending five dollars or more on one.
Materials:
• Scissors
• Pieces of red, white, and blue felt/foamie sheets
• Red, white, and blue ribbons (Available at Wal-mart and craft stores)
• Tacky Glue or Hot glue
• 3/8-inch dowel (Available at Wal-mart, craft stores or home improvement stores)
Cut a pair of 6- inch stars from one of the colors of felt/foamie. Then cut a 4-inch star out of another of the colors. Then you will need to cut a 3-inch star from the remaining color.
Use the glue to affix the stars to each other, and then glue the 2 sets like a sandwich with the dowel in the middle of the stars. Then to finish off your baton you will want to tie or glue the ribbons on. If you glue on the ribbons, you could also add a bell for a bit of noise.
