Without a doubt the 4th of July celebrations around the valley of the Sun are full of fun, food, festivities and pride. This year if you are looking for something to do here are a few things to check out and choose from.
This year the July 4th celebrations fall on a Friday which makes for a long weekend. Laughter is a fun way to kick off the 4th of July weekend and Stand Up Scottsdale is where you can laugh out loud with some of the valley’s best up and coming local comedians. Thursday July 3 is the “Live Free or Die Laughing Comedy show” featuring 10 of the valleys funniest female comedians along with headliner Vince Morris who has performed on BET's Comic View, Def. Comedy Jam and his own half hour Comedy Central Special.
If comedy is not your thing then family time is a great way to celebrate. The city of Tempe at Tempe Town Lake has a wonderful fireworks display and daytime lawn party. Arrive early to get a parking space parking is available in various areas around Mill avenue. The entrance to the park opens up at 5pm you can bring in a few things to make yourself comfortable like a gallon of water, blankets, chairs, camera and umbrellas. There will be plenty of food vendors, radio station Mix 96.9 will be there, souvenirs to buy and a colorful fireworks display once the sun goes down.
If you live in central Phoenix you can check out the Free Fireworks show at Steel Indian School Park. This year they will feature two stages of live entertainment, kid’s zone, splash zone and a classic car exhibit. The festivities kick off at 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. with the fireworks starting at 9:30 p.m. Friday July 4 on 3rd street and Indian School road.
Save some gas and money with parking and take the Metro light rail. The light rail will increase their service on Friday July 4 running every 10 minutes starting at 5 p.m. and the hours will be extended up to 2 a.m. on Saturday morning.
