This year the July 4th celebrations fall on a Friday which makes for a long weekend. Laughter is a fun way to kick off the 4th of July weekend and Stand Up Scottsdale is where you can laugh out loud with some of the valley’s best up and coming local comedians. Thursday July 3 is the “Live Free or Die Laughing Comedy show” featuring 10 of the valleys funniest female comedians along with headliner Vince Morris who has performed on BET's Comic View, Def. Comedy Jam and his own half hour Comedy Central Special.

If comedy is not your thing then family time is a great way to celebrate. The city of Tempe at Tempe Town Lake has a wonderful fireworks display and daytime lawn party. Arrive early to get a parking space parking is available in various areas around Mill avenue. The entrance to the park opens up at 5pm you can bring in a few things to make yourself comfortable like a gallon of water, blankets, chairs, camera and umbrellas. There will be plenty of food vendors, radio station Mix 96.9 will be there, souvenirs to buy and a colorful fireworks display once the sun goes down.

If you live in central Phoenix you can check out the Free Fireworks show at Steel Indian School Park. This year they will feature two stages of live entertainment, kid’s zone, splash zone and a classic car exhibit. The festivities kick off at 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. with the fireworks starting at 9:30 p.m. Friday July 4 on 3rd street and Indian School road.
