The 4th of July lands on a Friday this year and that means many businesses and government offices will be closed. Banks, the DMV, Social Security offices, the US Post Office, the stock market and even Costco will close their doors on July 4, 2014. That leaves many people searching to find out what is open on Friday.

The good news? According to The Opinionated Nation, most retail stores like Walmart and Target will be open for business on Independence Day, with many stores running big "America's Birthday" sales. In addition to retail stores, liquor stores and grocery stores, most restaurants will be open on Friday.

Costco is just about the only major retailer that closes down on the 4th of July. The membership-only warehouse club is closed on six major holidays each year, a nice perk for employees who want to spend the holidays with their families. Their competitor, BJs Wholesale Club, is open regular hours on Friday.

Here's a list of retail stores that will be open on July 4, 2014, courtesy of SavingsAdvice.com:

BJ's Wholesale - Open 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Friday.

Best Buy - Open regular hours in case you're in need of a new laptop, TV or gadget. Many items will be on sale during during the holiday weekend.

Home Depot and Lowe's - If you have a "honey do!" list to tackle or want to build a deck really fast before your cookout starts, both stores are open regular hours so you can shop 'til you drop for home and garden supplies.

Sears and KMart are both open on Friday. Call ahead for store hours as some locations will only be open special holiday hours.

Target - Open all day, with an Independence Day sale in full swing. Check with your local Target for store hours or find them here on Target.com.

Walmart - Open all day for fireworks, barbecue supplies and food. There's a big July 4th savings event going on all weekend. Many Walmart Super Centers are open 24 hours a day.

Most malls are open on Friday, so that means Old Navy, GAP, Macy's and other popular mall stores will be open.

CVS, Rite Aid and Walgreen's will all be open for business. Some locations are open 24-hours.
