Raise your hand, if you teach fourth graders in Wisconsin and want to order free trees for Arbor Day. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) State Nursery Program is offering white pine seedlings for fourth graders across the Badger State. Orders must be submitted by Saturday, March 15, for the 2014 Arbor Day free tree seedling program.

“The seedlings will be delivered to local DNR offices as close to Arbor Day as possible,” reads an official DNR announcement. Wisconsin’s DNR offers lots of Arbor Day environmental education materials for teachers on its website to go with the free tree program, which annually distributes approximately 75,000 free seedlings to fourth grade students statewide.

Arbor Day, held in Wisconsin on the last Friday of April, will take place on April 25, 2014. The actual date of Arbor Day may vary from state to state. The ecologically-focused national holiday, which originated in 1872 in Nebraska, is aimed at encouraging folks to plant trees.

Wisconsin fourth grade teachers may order the free white pine seedlings for their students by using an online form on the DNR website.
