Rockford’s high of 68 degrees on Monday was 8 degrees below the normal high for the date which is 76. It was the 4th consecutive day below normal. Temperatures early Tuesday started out into the 40s, but will quickly warm up to the middle 70s, but will likely become the 5th consecutive day below normal. High pressure off to our north will continue to move off to the east today. Off to our south and west a warm front will approach the area and winds will start to switch to the south and usher in warmer and more humid air.
Clouds will be on the increase Tuesday and a chance of showers exists late tonight and into Wednesday morning. More numerous showers and thunderstorms could linger through the morning Wednesday into the afternoon ahead of the approaching warm front. Over the coming 2 or 3 days much needed rain will help ease the developing drought conditions across the Midwest.
Thursday looks to start off very warm and humid. Temperatures should reach the middle 80s, and some spots, that get the most sun, may touch the upper 80s. A quick moving cold front will pass through the area later Thursday and into Friday morning. A chance of thunderstorms, with some heavy rainfall is possible starting Thursday evening and lasting through the late morning hours of Friday.
Friday afternoon/night we clear out just in time for the weekend. Behind the cold front temperatures will dip back to near 70, but under sunny skies each day. Saturday and Sunday both look excellent right now with dry conditions and seasonably cool temperatures.
The cool down will not last long as longer range forecasts call for continued above normal temperatures through all of next week. Longer range 1 to 3 month forecasts also indicate a continued trend to above normal temperatures, but a likelihood of above normal precipitation looks possible through the rest of the fall months, which is good news with the extremely dry conditions over the last couple of months.
