Rabbits beware. If you’re a rabbit in North Branch, MI, you better high-tail it for the hills this weekend. The fourth annual Rabbit Roundup is scheduled for Saturday, February 11th 2012, sponsored by the North Branch Area Business Association.
Registration check-in is from 6:30 am to 8 am, with a shotgun-start at 8:15 am at the American Legion Hall on Huron Street (M-90) in downtown North Branch. The entry fee is $30 per team (2 people) if registered by the 10th, and $40 at the door. Cash only, no refunds and both team members must be present to register. Dogs are allowed and not considered part of the team. Entry fee includes continental breakfast, lunch, and a drawing entry for a Mossburg 410 shotgun. Hunting spots are the responsibility of the hunters.
Hunters have until 3 pm to hunt, with 3:30 pm sharp to turn in their kills and qualify for a cash prize. Top prize is $300, 2nd prize is $200, and 3rd prize is $150, with graduating prize amounts down to $20 for 10th place. A participating $2 per team contest for smallest rabbit will win a trail camera, and heaviest rabbit will win a cash prize. The drawing will take place at 4 pm for the Mossburg shotgun, and winning ticket holder must be present.
Donated rabbits will be cleaned by Brower Farms of Brown City to be given to area needy families.
